Pastor
Dr. Mike Shaw
(918)833-0980I never imagined I would be the pastor of Beaver Street Baptist Church, but I am so glad that I am. This is the church where my wife, Marla, grew up and where we got married. At that time, I was an Oklahoma State University engineering student from my hometown of Spiro, Oklahoma. After we both graduated, I worked in manufacturing as an engineer and maintenance supervisor in Anadarko where God called me to a life of ministry and Bible teaching and preaching. Soon afterward, I earned my Masters of Divinity at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. Following graduation I served as Senior Pastor of Oklahoma churches at Marietta, Norman, Lawton, Mannford and Sapulpa (Associate Pastor). Along the way, I earned my Doctorate of Ministry at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. I also had the privilege of teaching Bible, Religion and Ministry courses for Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU). At times between churches, I have taught math and science in both public and a private Christian school, and I have worked in aerospace at Flight Safety and Bell Helicopter (in college).
My life verse is Ezra 7:10. In describing the reason for God's blessing on his life and ministry, the verse says, "For Ezra set his heart to study the law of the Lord and to practice it, and to teach His statutes and ordinances to all Israel." There is nothing I enjoy more than being able to teach and preach God's Word, and it is exciting to see how God blesses the ministry of His Word. As far as hobbies, I love sports in general as a fan (especially Notre Dame, OSU, Los Angeles Dodgers) and golfing in particular as a participant.
We have two grown children. Our daughter, Emily, graduated from OBU, got married to her husband Colten, and they live in Edmond. Our son, Evan, is a senior-to-be at Tulsa University, looking forward to law school following graduation.
I really believe the best is yet to come. Marla and I are so happy to be back at Beaver Street Baptist Church. We would love to have you come visit us.
